Patra Lekhana (ಪತ್ರಲೇಖನ) is one of the most important topics in the 10th Standard Kannada syllabus. Students often receive questions related to letter writing in board examinations. What is Patra Lekhana?
Patra Lekhana means writing a letter to communicate information, requests, opinions, or feelings. In Kannada, letters are generally divided into two types:
- Formal Letter (ಔಪಚಾರಿಕ ಪತ್ರ)
- Informal Letter (ಅನೌಪಚಾರಿಕ ಪತ್ರ)
Understanding the structure and purpose of each type is essential for examination success.
Kannada Patra Lekhana Format
1. Sender’s Address (ಕಳುಹಿಸುವವರ ವಿಳಾಸ)
The address of the person writing the letter should be written at the top.
2. Date (ದಿನಾಂಕ)
Mention the date below the address.
3. Receiver’s Address (ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವವರ ವಿಳಾಸ)
Write the address of the person receiving the letter.
4. Subject (ವಿಷಯ)
Mention the purpose of the letter briefly.
5. Salutation (ಸಂಬೋಧನೆ)
Example:
ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಸರ್,
ಪ್ರಿಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನೇ,
6. Body of the Letter (ಪತ್ರದ ವಿಷಯ)
Write the main content clearly and systematically.
7. Closing (ಕೊನೆ ಮಾತು)
Example:

ನಿಮ್ಮ ವಿಧೇಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ
8. Signature (ಸಹಿ)
Write the sender’s name.
